Traditional Telephony Services: Are they still a viable solution? placeholder thumbnail

Traditional telephony systems are great value and minimise communication issues, making service easier. They are especially attractive to smaller organisations within the Public Sector who have less funding.

It's beneficial to first explain that ISDN is being phased out from 2020-2025 and alternative solutions like VoIP Phone Systems will be taking over, so consider investigating these other solutions. However, traditional telephony is still being adopted by organisations who don't need or desire the added benefits of VoIP.

To get us started let's explain what PBX traditional telephony is:

PBX or Private Branch Exchange

A PBX or Private Branch Exchange connects all phones within a company internally and has multiple outside lines usually Analogue, ISDN or SIP Trunks and users can share them for making and receiving phone calls.

Your organisation can see huge cost savings by implementing a PBX Telephony system. A PBX shares the same Multi lines or ISDN system meaning you can have a higher number of phones in comparison to lines needed which will ultimately reduce costs.

You would have to purchase and install a PBX network and operate it from within the office. PBX systems use VoIP nowadays but there are still benefits of having a PBX powered by analogue technology.

How Traditional Telephony Services Can Benefit Public Sector Organisations

If your organisation within the Public Sector is small; a village GP office, for example, a traditional PBX, ISDN system would suffice and could be far more cost-effective than VoIP solutions because you only pay for the number of lines you need. Also due to VoIP being reliant on a strong internet connection, Public Sector Organisations or offices that have poor internet access would benefit more from a solid and reliant PBX using ISDN. Furthermore, If you don't pay for backup internet connection and your internet fails for any reason your Organisation would come to a standstill.
