About Walsingham Trust

Walsingham is known as "Englands Nazareth"  the Trust is responsible for the guardianship and maintenance of The Shrine of Our Lady of Walsingham.

The original Shrine was established in 1061 when, according to the text of the Pynson Ballad (c 1485), Richeldis de Faverches prayed that she might undertake some special work in honour of Our Lady. In answer to her prayer, the Virgin Mary led her in spirit to Nazareth, showed her the house where the Annunciation occurred, and asked her to build a replica in Walsingham to serve as a perpetual memorial of the Annunciation.

This Holy House was built and a religious community took charge of the foundation. Although we have very little historical material from this period, we know that with papal approval the Augustinian Canons built a Priory (c 1150). Walsingham became one of the greatest Shrines in Medieval Christendom.

The Challenge

A legacy ISDN system was causing issues for Walsingham Trust, it was complicated to add additional handsets, the system was inflexible to their needs and call handling capabilities were much below what they required to operated. There was also the added problem of the inability to transfer calls between offices that were on different locations.

Alongside the issues experienced with the legacy system a new system that supported an intranet and a single point of control to log and manage calls was also required. Something that was seemingly impossible with poor WiFi and painfully show internet connections across the sites.

Walsingham trust is based over 12 geographic locations in an ancient village that is within a conservation area making the requirements even harder. To add to the difficulty of the project the Trust operates 24/7, meaning all work needed to be completed with minimum disruption.

The Solution

A solution was offered to Walsingham Trust comprising of FTTC, Leased Lines and VoIP. To support this and provide a reliable and robust internet connection across the sites WiFi Hotspots were installed.

New network cabling and sockets were installed in all 12 locations alongside LAN-to-LAN Intranet connecting all sites to one central point.

The newly installed telephony system running over Leased Lines further underpins the robust connectivity providing guaranteed speeds and unrivalled reliability. A VoIP phone system offers a feature-rich and easily managed solution capable of handling high call volumes with features such as call transferring to different sites handled with ease.

The Results

Through our work together, Walsingham Trust have been able to take advantage of the following results:

Usability - A simplified system with advanced capabilities presents a much more user-friendly solution.

Reliability - Unrivaled SLA's and robust connectivity.

Remote Working Capabilities - Easily managed call routing and intranet means the 40 strong team can remain connected and work from anywhere.

Time Saving - With a dedicated account manager and one point of contact, making changes or getting support is quick and easy.

Cost Saving - A modernised telephony solution provides cost savings, further enhanced by the use of leased lines and no complex costly onsite equipment.

"Wavenet was there every step of the way. Their pricing was clear and on-target. The arrived onsite, provided detailed analysis of what we needed based on our requirements. They worked through the plans, implementing the different aspects of the project. Being based over 12 geographic locations in an ancient village within a conservation area, it was a complex operation. The added difficultly is, we needed to continue to operate, so these works were all completed without disrupting our day-to-day operation." - Nick Clovis, Director of IT & Comms, Walsingham Trust
