SoGEA is a term you're probably seeing more and more, and with the PSTN switch off on the horizon it's time to find out about it.
SoGEA stands for Single Order Generic Ethernet Access. But what does that mean? Simply put it means providers can order broadband without a phone line, so that you have everything you need within a single order.
In its plainest terms, SOGEA is a line connection solely for Internet purposes and use only. Traditionally customers would have to pay for mandatory voice services provided over a line. With the introduction of SOGEA, these charges are eradicated.
Savings
SoGEA provides cost and time savings. SoGEA is cheaper than the combined costs of a phone line and traditional Internet package. It is also around 30% cheaper than FTTC. Designed to be used in conjunction with a Hosted Phone System, pairing the reliable connectivity provided by SoGEA with an inexpensive cloud-based hosted solution means you benefit from huge savings.
With SoGEA everything comes from one provider, meaning you can easily report and resolve faults if anything goes wrong, meaning complaint resolution is quicker.
Quick Installation
SoGEA is quick to install making it a perfect solution for home or remote working. It also provides minimal disruption to businesses.
Single Line
With only one line, managing your business needs is simple. One line means one provider and one phone call to make changes.
High Speed
SoGEA offers speeds similar to FTTC, providing high speed reliable connections. Designed specifically to be used alongside a Hosted Phone System, SoGEA is a flexible and robust business solution.
Future-proof
With Openreach switching off the PSTN network by the end of 2025, PSTN exchanges across the UK are already being switched off in preparation for the move to full fibre. SoGEA enables your business to have a broadband or ethernet connection agnostic of the PSTN network, future-proofing your business connectivity.
Built for Business
With the looming PSTN switch off in 2025 and an increase in the use of Hosted Phone Systems most businesses aren't looking to landline services anymore. Traditional telephony solutions are expensive and becoming obsolete. As providers embrace the advances in technology this allows consumers to purchase just a single connection, ultimately providing more scalable, agile and cost effective solutions for businesses of all sizes.
When you read the points above it's hard to see any difference between SoGEA and FTTC, in fact their similarities are more than their differences. So how do you know which one is right for you?
Both offer the same speeds, they both use the same infrastructure, however, certain elements set them apart which will be the deciding factor on which one is right for you.
It all boils down to whether you will need a voice service or just data. SoGEA is data only, whereas FTTC gives you the option of data and voice. With no voice service this is what reduces the cost of SoGEA.
If the cheaper price point of SoGEA is attractive to you, but you're not sure if you're reliant on the voice service included with FTTC a Hosted Phone System is a perfect way around this. When using SoGEA you can easily include a Hosted Phone System which will run over your data connection providing you with a fast and reliable telephony system without the need of a traditional phone line.
