Streamline connectivity with LAN-supporting switch solutions.

Managed network switching refers to the management and monitoring of traffic through a Local Area Network. When your pupils and teachers attempt to access a local resource or application all at once it can bottleneck your school's network and make it difficult for the system to handle the requests. Poor or non-existent network switching allows all this traffic for data to come at once, causing connectivity issues, weakened security defences, and potentially disrupting learning environments.

Our managed network switching solves high-traffic issues by facilitating data transfers between your school's LAN and user devices. Our switching solutions help your school’s network determine and prioritise traffic of high importance, whilst being able to monitor and manage the status of the network and the devices using it.

Having provided services to over 4,000 schools nationwide, our managed network switching solutions are designed bespoke to your school, working in compliance with the Department of Education's digital and technology standards. Our services aim to not only enhance the network performance of your school or multi-academy Trust (MAT) but also help identify and address security and safeguarding risks to ensure safe and reliable data access for all students, staff, and teachers.

Managed network switching for a better safer learning environment

A reliable and effective network switch infrastructure is crucial for avoiding connectivity and network problems in school networks. As education increasingly depends on online resources and systems, outdated hardware can expose your network to security vulnerabilities and hinder access to essential resources and applications.

Advantages of an effective network switch infrastructure:

Threat-analysis

Simple accessible interface

Manage, monitor and identify areas of concern within your Local Access Network's traffic and activity from a simple comprehensive interface.

Platform-migration

Optimise performance with traffic management

Configure your switch to identify the network traffic that should be prioritised on your local network at peak usage times.

Zero-trust

Improve online security and safeguarding

Control how data travels through your school's network and who has access to it to safeguard students and teachers and prevent unauthorised access.

Regulations-and-standards

DfE standards compliance

Our managed network switching service ensures compliance with the DfE digital guidance standards for providing fast, reliable, secure network connections.

Connect-the-classroom-2

The Department of Education’s key network switching standards

  • Fast, reliable and secure connections - Due to schools facing a high number of users accessing the network at the same time, the DfE outlines that network switches should provide a minimum of 1Gbps connectivity to the user device and provide fast, reliable, secure, connections to both wired and wireless networks.
  • Central management platform - Network switches should be configurable from a single central management tool which can also monitor performance and provide alerts in the event of a network failure.
  • User-protecting security features - Switches should be configured to 'support network segregation, security and quality of service' whilst not impacting the network's deployment or performance. To ensure continued security and performance, software updates should be implemented as soon as they are available and any administrative accounts able to make switch configuration changes must be secure and fully documented.
  • Reducing major outages - Critical switches and their connections should be identified and provided with multiple uninterruptible power supply solutions and dual connections to ensure single-element failure will not cause a major outage. The DfE requires core switches should have 2 power supplies, 2 management modules, and 2 connections to other critical infrastructures.
