Our process for upgrading your network cabling
To ensure your school's new network cabling meets your and the Department of Education's expected standards, our teams follow a service process which identifies and tackles your school's unique challenges.
- Full site survey - Before we install any cabling at your school, our team will conduct a comprehensive site assessment to identify your needs in accordance with the DfE Wireless Network Standards.
- Service development - From the gathered information during the site survey, our team will develop a unique network cabling solution bespoke to your school or MAT.
- Installation - Once you’re happy with your bespoke solution, our partnered team of specialist engineers will begin to update the network cabling at your premises.
- Testing - To ensure full compliance with DfE and British standards, we will thoroughly test various aspects of your network cabling to ensure it performs as expected.
The Department of Education’s key network cabling standards
- Installation of Cat 6A cabling - To provide schools and MATs with flexible, reliable network standards, the DfE highlights the importance of upgrading existing cabling to category 6A cabling. Unlike earlier copper cabling standards, 6A cabling provides greater data capacity, allowing for better network and device performance.
- Optical fibre cabling - Faulty, damaged, or old cabling can have a substantial effect on the performance of your school's network. OM4 optical cabling helps to transfer your network data efficiently over greater distances from your servers, ensuring that all required data can be accessed throughout the entirety of your premises.
- Network cabling installation - All underperforming cabling should be replaced with DfE-approved cabling, installed by manufacturer-approved installation partners and adhere to the relevant British standards on specification, installation, operation, and maintenance.
